Current mood: angry fanboy

S'too damn hot
I'm in a weird mood right now. I've got a lot on my mind, and it's incredibly hot and humid. That combination is just outright uncomfortable.

Mainly, I'm in a funky mood because I've been trying to see Rin for days, and it just never works out. (I'm not trying to make her feel guilty or anything, stuff just hasn't worked out. I'm in a weird mood because of it.)

I'm also in a weird mood because I just went through all my comics. Got me reminiscing. I forgot what a Marvel Zombie I was. And all the crappy-ass Image comics I've bought over the years. (And I also can't find my Danger Girl Collection 2 and 3 . . . )

Speaking of Danger Girl, I was flipping through volume one, and started reading it in Venture Brothers voices. Donavin Conrad as Phantom Limb, Natalia Kassle as Molotov Cocktease, Deuce as Colonel Gentlemen, and Silicon Valerie as Master Billy Quizboy. (This will be incredibly funny to anyone who is well versed in Danger Girl and Venture Bros. . . . Everyone else, just skip it.)

I've been thinking about comics and comic fandom a lot lately. . . Thinking about how things have changed since I was a wee lad. And some things are just getting under my skin. I really shouldn't let it bother me, but seeing other fandoms crossover into mine, dragging the worst parts of it with them . . . It's not something that should ruin my enjoyment of comics, but I can't help feeling that way. On the bright side, the gaining popularity of comics makes for better comic book movies like Iron Man and The Dark Knight, but the downside is seeing unintelligent fans bastardize the characters.

And speaking of annoying fandoms, I have been blown away by otherwise intelligent people loving some of the worst drivel I've ever seen . . .

The internet is both a blessing and a curse. It's fantastic when I can find info easily, but it's also a curse in that anyone can browse Wikipedia for ten minutes and think they're Jim Freakin' Trabold. And I also have a huge problem when someone takes something and tries to build it into a large fandom in an attempt to justify it and\or legitimize it as something objectively good. . . . (in short, "OMG this is popular, so it must be good!") It's one thing to like, oh, say for example trashy Harlequin romance novels, but it's another thing to try and pass them off as anything other than poorly written crap. You may find it entertaining, but it's not good.

Eh. I need to rant and rave about this and generally be cranky, but I don't think I can articulate it. I'm tired, and this really isn't the place. I've got to go back to work tomorrow, and I really don't want to. I had today off, but I'm not recovered yet. Ideally, I could use a few days off, but that ain't gonna happen. Damnit.

Screw it, I'm going to sleep.

The aspects of a fandom that make me really ticked off is when somebody would express their opinion that is the opposite of a fanboy's own, the said fanboy would make some really nasty comments that could personally hurt the person who just didn't agree with the fanboy.

Also I would really like to know what kind of people that defend the Friedberg and Seltzer brand of "parody", just because they've made millions at the Box Office doesn't automatically mean it's good.

(I know I've made comments on them before in some of your previous blogs, but I just can't help but I think they fit perfectly here as well.)

Are you referencing my newfound love for the "Twilight" series by Stephenie Meyer? Or is that just something that is annoying and slightly amusing.
